Walk a Healthy 18

Blue Diamond® Growers and the LPGA announce a partnership renewal this month in support of Blue Diamond's Oven Roasted Almonds. The enhanced partnership will highlight the introduction of the ‘Walk a Healthy 18' campaign that will encourage fans to lead a healthy lifestyle with the LPGA and Blue Diamond® Almonds, the official healthy snack of the LPGA.

The Blue Diamond® Almonds Walk a Healthy 18 program encourages golf fans to lead a healthy lifestyle through their love of the game and their dedication to eating healthy and tasty foods such as almonds. Golf, unlike most other spectator sports, provides fans the unique opportunity to be outdoors and physically active while watching their favorite professional athletes compete. Walking 18 holes of a golf course is equivalent to walking 5 miles, creating a call to action to make exercise a part of a healthy lifestyle. This new campaign will be communicated to LPGA fans through multiple touchpoints including an onsite presence at tournaments and a viral campaign on Facebook, Twitter and LPGA.com.

“Since we began our partnership in the spring of 2008, the Blue Diamond® team has worked hard to discover unique and effective ways to connect with our health-conscious fans,” said LPGA Commissioner Mike Whan. “We're thrilled to partner with a first class brand on this creative campaign, and we congratulate them on 100 years of innovation and leadership.”

“By combining great LPGA talent with the great taste of Blue Diamond Snack Nuts, we are able to effectively promote the brand,” said Maya Erwin Marketing Manager, Blue Diamond. “This partnership allows Blue Diamond to reach key audiences while demonstrating our leadership in healthy snacking.”

The new campaign debuts alongside the 100th anniversary celebration of Blue Diamond Growers. Since 1910, the Blue Diamond Growers (originally known as the California Almond Growers Exchange) have continued growing, processing and marketing a superior product and have become synonymous with quality almonds worldwide.

So, whether you like almonds, baby carrots or apples, be sure to keep your health snacks close the next time you hit the golf course.

PGA Merchandise Show - Part 5

On Friday before I left the golf show I happened to pass by the LPGA booth. While this booth had been super busy all show, it was difficult to even walk by it due to the size of the crowd standing around. I was immediately curious! Christina Kim, Angela Stanford and Anna Nordvqist were all at the booth. Many people were waiting in line for an autograph of picture with the ladies. Christina Kim did a great job of entertaining the crowd and kept us all laughing while we waited.

I always knew that Anna Nordvqist was tall, but she is really, really tall!

I followed Angela Stanford quite a bit during the 2009 LPGA season. She has a great story and it was really neat to actually get to meet her! She is super nice, too.

I'm not one to get star struck or to chase down a celebrity to get my picture taken with them, but it was a great experience to get to meet these very talented ladies! They inspire me to play more golf and to work on improving my golf game.

2010 LPGA Tour Schedule the Smallest in 40 Years

Love to watch the ladies on the tour? I'm always inspired each time I'm able to sit down and watch a tournament. Well, there will be fewer opportunities to watch ladies golf tournaments on the LPGA circuit next year.

The 2010 LPGA schedule will include only 23 events-- 13 of them in the United States -- to give the tour its smallest schedule in nearly 40 years. Only six of these tournaments are scheduled before June, according to a report by Golfweek.

Last year the tour announced 31 events for 2009, though only 27 were played as the economy led several sponsors to withdraw after the schedule was assembled.

The LPGA Championship is being moved to Locust Hill Country Club outside Rochester, N.Y., with regional supermarket chain Wegmans replacing McDonald's as sponsor of the season's second major.

Newly named the LPGA Championship Presented by Wegmans, the $2.25 million tournament will be held June 27th.

McDonald's had been involved with the event since it was founded as the McDonald's Kids Classic in 1981. The Rochester LPGA stop began in 1977 as the Bankers Trust Classic and was frequently mentioned in the past as a candidate for major status because of consistent fan support.

McDonald's announced earlier this year it would not return in 2010 as sponsor of the LPGA Championship. The Rochester event reportedly was also briefly at risk as relations between local organizers and LPGA officials became strained this summer during negotiations on a new deal.

That situation contributed to then-commissioner Carolyn Bivens resigning under pressure as players expressed concern about the shrinking tournament schedule amid reports that Bivens was at odds with numerous tournament organizers.
